From a very young age, Chuck Marshall knew he was destined to become an artist. Growing up amidst the rolling fields, lush hillsides, and abundant wildlife of Ohio, he developed an early love and deep respect for both the outdoors and the art of capturing its beauty. As a boy, he would spend hours wandering the countryside, sketchbook in hand, translating the landscapes and creatures he encountered into detailed drawings. It was clear to everyone around him—Chuck was born with a gift and a passion that would shape his life.
After a brief time serving in the Navy, Chuck’s journey to artistic mastery truly took flight. He studied for a year at the Art Institute of Cincinnati, soaking in the fundamentals of fine art, before heading west to California. There, at the California Art Institute in Southern California, he refined his skills and expanded his horizons, studying under various accomplished artists whose teachings helped him discover his unique voice. These experiences laid the foundation for his diverse and impressive career.
Chuck’s artistry isn’t confined to a single medium. He has spent years working as an illustrator and graphic designer, blending his technical skills with his natural talent for fine art. But it’s his passion for plein air painting—the spontaneous, heartfelt art created outdoors—that has truly defined his reputation. He has been invited to participate in many prestigious national plein air events, including serving as a guest artist at the Plein Air Convention and Expo. His works have been showcased at the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in Georgia, Door County Plein Air in Wisconsin, the Great American Paint Out in Florida, Wayne Plein Air in Pennsylvania, En Plein Air Texas, and the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival, where he has proudly taken home the Best of Show award twice.
As a member of esteemed artistic societies such as the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, Ohio Plein Air Society, American Impressionist Society, and Oil Painters of America, Chuck continues to grow and inspire. His paintings have been featured in renowned magazines like International Artist, American Artist, and Plein Air Magazine, further cementing his status as a nationally recognized artist.
Throughout his career, Chuck has garnered numerous awards and accolades, both locally and across the nation. He has also shared his expertise as a judge in many juried art shows, helping to nurture and recognize new talent in the art community. With each brushstroke, Chuck Marshall not only captures the beauty of the natural world but also embodies the passion and dedication that he knew from his earliest days—that he was born to be an artist.
