Lung Cancer Action Week

STATE OF OHIO (NWPR) – The American Lung Association in Ohio kicks off Lung Cancer Action Week from May 5-11 in Ohio, Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland to raise awareness of lung cancer and encourage residents to take action to end the disease.

The Lung Association also shares seven actions people can take this week to help end lung cancer:

  1. Wear turquoise between May 5-11, 2025.
  2. Share your lung cancer story to raise awareness and inspire hope.
  3. Get screened for lung cancer if you are eligible.
  4. Test your home for radon.
  5. Donate to help achieve a world free of lung cancer.

“In 2025 alone, it is estimated that almost 10,000 Ohio residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer. But there is hope. We have seen incredible advancements in early diagnosis, treatment and survivorship from lung cancer. In fact, the five-year survival rate has increased by over 50% in the past decade,” said Brittany Sinzinger, Executive Director of the Lung Association in Ohio. “Raising awareness and funds for lung cancer is more important than ever. We encourage our community to get involved in Lung Cancer Action Week.”

The Breath of Hope Ohio Gala is a major fundraising event for lung cancer research in Ohio, with the next one scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 6:00 pm. It is held at the Ohio Union, specifically the Archie M. Griffin East Ballroom, 2nd Floor, located at 1739 N. High St in Columbus. A Lung Cancer Survivors’ Reception from 5:15-6:00 pm.

Since 2014, LUNG FORCE has raised over $32 million for lifesaving lung cancer research, expanding its research commitment by 140%. Through education, advocacy and research, LUNG FORCE is working to ensure that fewer people are diagnosed and those living with the disease live longer.
