Celebrating local innovation and business growth

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (NWPR) – In the heart of the Hoosier State, there was a vibrant community of entrepreneurs—bold, creative, and passionate about turning their ideas into thriving businesses. These Indiana dreamers weren’t just making products; they were building a future rooted in innovation and local pride.

On this April 29 sunny day, Indiana Grown, the state’s champion for local agriculture and entrepreneurship, hosted its second annual Indiana Grown Showcase—a grand celebration of ingenuity and enterprise. Over 75 local vendors, artisans, and Indiana businesses gathered to showcase their unique creations—from rich honey and spicy blends to handcrafted body care and craft spirits. It was a bustling marketplace where the spirit of entrepreneurship shined brightly.

Governor Mike Braun, himself a proud entrepreneur, spoke at the event. He emphasized how vital these local businesses are to Indiana’s economy and culture. “The Indiana Grown Showcase is more than just a display of products; it’s a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our state forward,” he declared. “Supporting these food entrepreneurs helps create jobs, sparks innovation, and keeps our local economy thriving.”

Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith also shared his excitement, highlighting how Indiana Grown celebrates the hardworking entrepreneurs behind each business. “These entrepreneurs are the backbone of our community,” he said. “Their dedication and passion remind us why supporting local businesses isn’t just good for the economy—it’s good for the soul of Indiana.”

The event was designed to connect these passionate entrepreneurs with food distributors, retailers, chefs, and industry professionals eager to forge new partnerships. For many, it was an opportunity to grow their businesses, expand their reach, and turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

One standout was Tulip Tree Creamery from Indianapolis. Owner Laura Davenport expressed her enthusiasm: “This is our second year at the showcase, and every year, the connections we make surpass our expectations. It’s inspiring to see new faces and reconnect with old friends who believe in supporting local entrepreneurs.”

Throughout the event, a variety of products were on display—beef, bison, baked goods, seasonings, honey, and more—all crafted by Indiana’s talented entrepreneurs. Don Lamb, Director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, recognized the importance of events like this. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for Indiana businesses to meet buyers and showcase their hard work,” he said.

Cindy Shidler, owner of Cindy’s Candy Corner, was there to meet potential buyers and connect with fellow Indiana Grown members. “This event is a perfect platform for entrepreneurs like me to grow our businesses,” she shared. “It’s a chance to learn, network, and celebrate what we create with so much passion.”

Caroline Patrick, Director of Indiana Grown, summed it up beautifully: “Events like this put Indiana entrepreneurs in the spotlight. They are the heartbeat of our local economy, and today we celebrate their innovation, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit.”

As the day drew to a close, it was clear that Indiana’s entrepreneurial community was alive and thriving—each small business a testament to the power of dreams, hard work, and the support of a community that believes in lifting each other up. And so, Indiana’s entrepreneurs continue to build a brighter, more vibrant future—one local creation at a time.
