Appointed Head Boys Basketball Coach

PORTLAND, IN (NWPR) – In an exciting new chapter for Jay County High School, Tyler Rigby has been officially named the Head Boys Basketball Coach, succeeding interim coach Brogan Gary, who took over earlier this year for Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Bomholt due to health concerns.

Rigby’s journey in the world of basketball is both impressive and inspiring. A former star player, Rigby was a standout athlete at Indiana University East, where he not only became the school’s all-time leader in career points but also earned the title of Male Athlete of the Year three times. His accolades include the Champions of Character Award, highlighting his commitment to sportsmanship and integrity.

Since 2012, Rigby has contributed to the basketball program at IU East as an assistant coach, while also supporting the cross country and track and field teams. He brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having led Jay County to the Indiana Class 3A state finals in 2006, where he received the prestigious Trester Award for showcasing an exemplary mental attitude on and off the court.

The community eagerly anticipates Rigby’s leadership as he steps into this new position, bringing a combination of passion and dedication that promises to inspire a new generation of young athletes at Jay County High School. As Jay County rallies around their new coach, all eyes will be on the team’s upcoming season, hoping to see Rigby’s winning spirit translate into success on the court.
